What is BaZi?
BaZi (八字), or the Four Pillars of Destiny, is an ancient Chinese system that maps the moment of birth onto a calendar of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches. Each pillar marks a stage of life: the year for ancestry and early environment, the month for career and parents, the day for the self and spouse, and the hour for children and later life. Read together, the eight characters form a symbolic language of tendency and timing — which elements are strong, which are thin, and how they feed or restrain one another.
It is not fortune-telling in the superstitious sense, but a symbolic language for understanding one's tendencies and timing.
Think of it as a weather report for a temperament: it describes the climate you were born into, not the choices you will make. Two people can share a chart and live entirely different lives; the chart simply names the raw material they are working with.
